ARTISTS RESEARCH

Through printing of a 25 page word document full of artists i have certainly discovered a handful of smashing artists, here's just a few of who I've found. Happy to say though that my research file is complete!

Anna Davern

Amy Tavern

Denise Julia Reytan

Christina Romeo

WOOLY TIGHTS, OVER THE KNEE SOCKS, FLUFFY SOCKS & WELLIES

And my feet still managed to get damp when going in the sea. Whitby is always best in the freezing cold though with the best company while screaming along to Florence and Gaga. Even though it was cold and dark the little shops where welcoming and cosy along with there cute little Christmas decorations, sadly i couldn't buy any as Tilly my princess of a cat would of attacked them and had them for her supper. Stocked up on humbugs though!

IDEAS

On the last day of breaking up for Christmas at uni i spent the day driving myself crazy, attempting to work Photoshop giving myself a few idea's of what the background of my canvas could look like. I've stuck between what scene to go for, beach, street or a fairy tale background. So these are just a few quick backgrounds of quick ideas. Luckily I've decided on the material finally and went for suede, looking forward to getting making once we're back!

ROB FOOTE

What could be better than a cowberri, Rob Foote defiantly has a way with words. His work is currently within my bay for inspiration, have a look at the rest of his work on his website http://www.robfoote.net/

SIXTY TWO SAMPLES LATER...

I've being sampling like crazy lately and finally I’m done, well with sampling anyhow, all 62 of them. I can’t wait to put my decals on my ceramics on Monday and to see the finished tile! Fingers crossed their will come out cracking and in one piece!

A week today and I’m hoping to know what I’m making ready for when I go back after Christmas. I have so many ideas so the week ahead will be filled with design sheets and sketch book work, when it will actually be nice to draw for a change, can’t remember the last time I had a pen in my hand! By the looks of things each final piece will somehow have metal within it, which is strange as we have a love/hate relationship. Hopefully we will end up having a smashing romance in the end, fingers crossed.

After making my final products, there’s then displaying all my samples and final pieces too, which I’m really looking forward to doing. I’m thinking a height chart for my textiles samples and making a jigsaw for my metal and ceramic samples, very childlike!

This week my bay has being changing from a day to day basis, most of my samples are now hidden away within boxes clear of sight so i can finally focus upon so many to develop them even further. But Today has left me with stained busho hands again, even though I did wear gloves for a change. Over the weekend i'm going to busy drawing from insects focusing on their wings and thinking about how their could make a appearance within my final pieces. Here’s a sneaky look into my never ending samples, well some of them.

My jewelry samples, half animals half vegetables. So far my samples have being made of copper, but for my final pieces which i develop them into are going to be made from silver, CLASSY! Their have being etched into then oxidised, some have worked better than others which is a dear shame. Alice my teacher seems to think there's a voodoo feeling to them...
My mixed media samples have again being etched and oxidised, and some have being stitched onto flat textiles, where others have became more 3d, my final sample is appliqued mixing the two of textiles and metal together by using hand embroidery.

My messy brusho samples which has left me with multi colored dirty hands just in time for the weekend.

Within my brusho samples i have worked back into it applying bleach in certain parts to cancel out the color, then layering it with stamping with my handmade rubber stamps as well as hand embroidery, I've also tried experimenting with magic touch over the top.

Just two of my ceramic samples with mono print and rubber stamps pressed into them, there glazes where applied yesterday and should be out the kiln Monday ready for there decals and to be stitched into!

SEWING BOX!

With far too many threads, ribbons and bits and bobs I decided it was finally time to get a much bigger sewing box. And here it is, it will be like Christmas day when it gets delivered!

HALF COW, HALF PEPPER

Last Friday I taught myself how to use Photoshop, this is one of my outcomes. Half animal, half vegetable.

PANTS AND PAPER

Firstly pants and paper is such a cracking name, why don’t I have such a creative business name? Would be so much more effective them my silly little name, Karen and Alan defiantly could of gave me a more adventurous name. Really need to start thinking about a business name actually; one will probably pop into my mind at around two in the morning, always the time when I get my ideas. Anyhow this set is defiantly going on my Christmas list, how sweet is it. Such a big obsession for birdcages.

Pants and paper create such cute little brooches; have a closer look on their shop on not on the high street website.

Samples

Attempting to create my 40 samples PLUS my 12 refined samples has left me with battered hands I’m not going to lie. After managing to snap over twenty blades and cutting my poor little finger twice, I am defiantly glad to say it’s the weekend.
My 12 refined samples are slowly coming along, hoping to get textiles completed over the weekend. It’s being very messy indeed while applying brusho to different materials, leaving me with beautiful stained hands. The colours at least look nice on the fabrics though, lots of hand embroidery going into them along with the use of using my rubber stamps.
Then it’s a very busy two weeks ahead of me, to complete the rest of jewellery and ceramics. I’ve chosen to focus upon the technique of etching within jewellery, creating lots of animals little faces alongside vegetable bodies. Very naïve indeed. The jewellery room has slowly become as if it’s my second home this week, little do people know that me and jewellery DO NOT get on. Excited to combine textiles and jewellery together though! In ceramics I’m experimenting with mono printing which I’m actually enjoying, hopefully by Monday there should be fired so I can apply some decals on top which are of my drawings of vegetables.

Next… design development.

Naïve

Always nice when you finally decide on one word from a very long list for your brief… NAÏVE. Then it takes you four and a half hours to get to sleep because you have too many ideas floating around in your head! I’m personally thinking vegetable printing.

I’m going to feel like I am four years old again.
