SLIP CASTS

Many different slip casts glazed and ready to be fired, trying to recreate paper like ripped edges. Have to see the finished results once im back at uni.
Finally two weeks off, and on my first day of the sunshine disappears and hides away… Just my luck.

SLIP DIPPING

Ceramics samples are finally getting done with very little time left before we break up for Easter. Slip dipping with a mixture of different textures in materials as well as crochet and Angelina fibres. Layering them in different arrangements before getting dunked into a bowl full of porcelain slip.

FLORENCE, CORNERHOUSE AND MANCHESTER ART GALLERY

I have had a much needed break, two days of, all work free. I was lucky enough to adventure up to both Manchester and Newcastle to see Florence and the machine for my 6th and 7th time of seeing them live. Their never fail to disappoint, the voice, THAT CATSUIT and the stage were a picture perfect image. She has a voice of an angel, and it was wonderful to see somebody who is so sweet and down to earth have their dream come to true to have an arena tour, while walking into men arena I got all teary eyed like a proud mother, it is defiantly the biggest arena I’ve ever being into! Newcastle arena was bursting with energy and the crowd was actually amazing, song of the night was without a doubt never let me go. The room felt silent and all you could see was a sea of arms swaying side to side with Florence beaming with pride with the biggest grin on her face.

In Manchester we travelled up early which allowed us the opportunity to explore the beautiful streets filled up of shop upon shop where I ended up spending far too many pennies! We popped into the Cornerhouse gallery, which also sold the most amazing orange and chocolate muffins, yummmm. It opened its doors the specular colourful work of the artist Samantha Donnelly.

Made up of bright flashes of colour, fashion imagery and even fake nails it certainly didn’t disappoint, the layout was perfect allowing each piece to stand at its own. The scale of her work is actually amazing, so sculptural and beautiful and made up of so many different weird and wonderful textures.

We then headed over to the Manchester art gallery, which is a beautiful building on such a grand space with never ending corridors situated over three whole floors. Within there they were holding their under that cloud exhibition. An open place space room filled up of all different textures and colours and hidden meanings within the different pieces under one roof.

CRACKED EGG, UPDATES

I’ve being busy busy with sampling, and developing those samples even further alongside my research, drawings and ideas throughout the whole of my sketch book too. I’ve being overrun with the amount of jewellery samples that I have with looking into the technique of patination and texture, next week I’m going to be looking into getting my drawings into my samples by negative shaping. As well as drawing with wire itself which is going to tie nicely into textiles too.

Textiles finally underway with a wide range of different techniques from crochet with wool and wire, weaving, and manipulating fabrics alongside working with paper as well and attempting to combine them all togeather.

After having a few problems creating my moulds there finally ready to use, next week will be filled up of getting filthy and covered in clay, hello apron and scruffy clothes! Lots and lots slip casts to be created of different sized eggs, looking into different finishes and shapes for them, as well as having a long list of ideas of combining metal and textiles within them!

PATINATION WITH HEAT

Patination with using heat offered me a very different finished appearance in colour. Patination while cold left me with a beautiful blue shade were the heat left me with shades of red. Thinking of trying to combine the two within the one piece. Oh and also....
Labels, labels, labels, I am far to organised for my own good. OCD.
