Samples

Attempting to create my 40 samples PLUS my 12 refined samples has left me with battered hands I’m not going to lie. After managing to snap over twenty blades and cutting my poor little finger twice, I am defiantly glad to say it’s the weekend.
My 12 refined samples are slowly coming along, hoping to get textiles completed over the weekend. It’s being very messy indeed while applying brusho to different materials, leaving me with beautiful stained hands. The colours at least look nice on the fabrics though, lots of hand embroidery going into them along with the use of using my rubber stamps.
Then it’s a very busy two weeks ahead of me, to complete the rest of jewellery and ceramics. I’ve chosen to focus upon the technique of etching within jewellery, creating lots of animals little faces alongside vegetable bodies. Very naïve indeed. The jewellery room has slowly become as if it’s my second home this week, little do people know that me and jewellery DO NOT get on. Excited to combine textiles and jewellery together though! In ceramics I’m experimenting with mono printing which I’m actually enjoying, hopefully by Monday there should be fired so I can apply some decals on top which are of my drawings of vegetables.

Next… design development.

Naïve

Always nice when you finally decide on one word from a very long list for your brief… NAÏVE. Then it takes you four and a half hours to get to sleep because you have too many ideas floating around in your head! I’m personally thinking vegetable printing.

I’m going to feel like I am four years old again.

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER....

My summer project had so far being filled up of very random drawings indeed; until that is i finally got out of Stockton (For anybody that lives there to you can imagine my excitement). I had my adventures in Whitby and York, and luckily the sunshine was out! I spent rather a lot of pennies there but I couldn’t help it, the shops there are so cute and perfect. Although I did buy a letter sign, which when I got it home after hammering it in with a heel turned out to spell… Keep calm and carr on. IT COULD ONLY HAPPEN TO ME, and I thought that I couldn’t spell to, it’s scary to think somewhere out there is a worse speller than me. God help whoever you are.

Moving on… There i was able to take some B E A U T I F U L images, and then had something good to draw and thank god for it too. I now have so many photos to draw from which will luckily keep me busy when the weather is currently having a nervous breakdown out there. So Ive spent my days sat drawing, screaming along to Amy Winehouse RIP, eating humbugs (I’ve decided, totally going to buy a jar of them wherever I go now, by the time you see me I will indeed be a humbug itself) Now my sketch book is now quickly becoming such a fatty like myself from all the humbugs, and I am around ¾ through now, the sketch book I am now on about. By the time September comes and it’s time to go back to University I won’t be able to shut it.
KEEP CALM AND CARR ON....

Just a jar full of humbugs, soon to be empty. Up against some felt uneatable unfortunately humbugs which I made for my FMP in college. There look so perfect alongside each other.

Here’s a sneaky peek at a couple of my drawings, very random ones at the start… example of my exercise bike which is currently killing me, pretty flowers, outfits, an outing to Seaton, then eventually only three of Whitby. Some more to come soon over the summer including York drawings, happy non summer!

After many hours spent hand stitching and beading, resulting in having very poorly fingers indeed. Not to mention the amount of times I tried to slip cast, it’s finally paid off! And today was the big day of getting our grades. I got a first, which made me very happy knowing that all them hours spent doing work did pay off. I had a nice surprise walking in and seeing everybody’s work from first year in the windows of the second and third years show, it was perfectly presented!
It was a live brief for Mima, to create a range under any given title. I decided to go with home sweet home where I felt more in my comfort zone. I created mixed media bunting, using magic touch paper to transfer my prints. Then I had the joy of hand stitching into them, oh the fun I had. Then mixed the material alongside slip casted pencils and spoons. Another piece which I made was scissor shaped pin cushions, mixing and matching having it half ceramic with the other half fabric.
First year has managed to go by so quickly, and my second year is just around the corner in September, scary stuff! Now it’s time for a very long break, but the summer project of ‘I know what you did last summer’ will hopefully keep me entertained!
